Tycho
An IDE where AI agents do the work, inside rails you set.
Tycho is the environment NSi4 builds with. Agents plan, edit, build and test against real codebases, with their permissions and project context fixed before the first message.
- Session. The executor and its model, with tokens and cost.
- Tool calls. A failed build, the fix, and the build that passed.
- Preview. The page the agent changed, captured at 1280 px.
01 Problem
Chat assistants forget, and can't be trusted with a real codebase.
A chat window loses its context when it closes, runs every tool with the same permissions, and has no safe place to execute a command. That is fine for a snippet. It is not how you change a production system.
02 Constraints
What the agent must never lose.
The conversation lives in one remote session. The desktop app only projects it, so a crash or restart resumes the same workspace instead of starting over.
Every run starts from a composed skill stack that fixes the agent's persona, tools and project context before the first message. The agent's terminal is an isolated PowerShell process, never the user's own shell.
03 What We Built
An IDE shaped around the agent.
Four parts carry an agent's turn from plan to proof: the loop, its tools, the workspace and the terminal it drives.
Orchestration
A turn loop that streams responses, runs tools and records every turn to a trace.
Tooling
Code analysis over Roslyn with semantic search, guarded SQL, AliveMD documents and sandboxed files.
Shell
A docked desktop workspace whose panel layout is saved per project.
Terminal
An out-of-process PowerShell the agent drives, with every output stream captured.
04 Evidence
It is building the page you are reading.
This website's redesign is executed by Tycho agents against tasks in AliveMD. Every change is filed with its evidence and checked before it is accepted.
- Executor. The role and model working the task.
- Approach. The agent's plan: 13 of 13 steps done.
- Steps. Each step's tool calls, failures included.
One task, start to finish
